Profile
Katayoun Chamany is the Mohn Family Professor of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and Professor of Biology in the Interdisciplinary Science program of Eugene Lang College and the Director of the Academic Science Labs at 麻豆传媒色情片.听 Born in Iran, raised in Iowa, and trained as geneticist and cell biologist, she uses a STREAMD framework (STEM + Arts +Design+ Responsibility) combined with visual thinking strategies, case study learning, and the flipped classroom format to promote inclusive learning environments. Utilizing critical pedagogy, she demonstrates how scientific literacy can lead to positive social change across a range of topics delivered in undergraduate and graduate courses, labs, collabs, and in a summer bridge course for the Higher Education Opportunity Program. As a Leadership Fellow for Science for New Civic Engagements and Social Responsibilities (), she designed in collaboration with colleagues in the humanities, social sciences, policy, and design. She is a member of the Faculty for the 21st Century of Project Kaleidoscope, a national organization focused on undergraduate science education reform and has served as a reviewer and member of editorial boards of the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science and the CBE-Life Sciences Education journal. She has been involved with the International at the level of curriculum development, teaching and judging.听 She has hosted numerous faculty development workshops in the areas of classroom management, curriculum development, and authentic assessment.听 For these efforts, she has received the 麻豆传媒色情片 Distinguished University Teaching Award and University Social Justice Teaching Award, the Eugene Lang College Excellence In Faculty Advising Award, the William E. Bennett Award for Extraordinary Accomplishments in Citizen Science from SENCER, and the John A. Moore Award for Science as a Way of Knowing from the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology.听 She received her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of California, Berkeley in 1996.
