You need to complete all degree requirements, as specified in the academic catalog, before your planned graduation date in order for your degree to be conferred. In addition, to receive an undergraduate degree, you must complete all requirements with a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. To receive a graduate degree, you must attain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Some doctoral programs require a cumulative GPA higher than 3.0.

Review Your Academic Progress in DegreeWorks
DegreeWorks is an online tool that shows you which degree requirements you have completed and which remain to be met. You can find the link to DegreeWorks in under the Academics tab.

Degree-seeking students can apply for graduation one term before their expected graduation date. The application for graduation is available through MyNewSchool under the Academics tab. Students who miss the deadline should consult with their advisor.

The only way to be on the list for consideration for graduation is to apply. Students who fail to apply forfeit their right to have their degree conferred in the term when applications are closed; they may apply for the next available application term.

If circumstances change and a student is no longer on target to complete for the term for which they applied, the student should immediately notify their advisor in writing. The advisor will communicate this change of events to the registrar, who will remove the now incorrect application. After the application has been removed, the student will be free to apply for the new term.

If you forget whether you've applied or can't remember for which term you've applied, you can view your current applications by going to and checking your Dashboard. If you do not see any information related to graduation on your Dashboard, that means you have not applied yet.

If you are pursuing a graduate degree, you should complete your requirements within these time limits:

Master's degrees: five years

Doctor of Philosophy
Milano School: eight years
�鶹��ýɫ��Ƭ for Social Research (except Clinical Psychology): ten years
Clinical Psychology: 12 years

If you do not complete your program within the time limit, you must request and receive an extension in order to register again. An extension of the time petition should be filed with your department chair. Your petition should specify the degree requirements you have completed so far and propose a specific plan for completing the remaining work. If your petition is approved, you will then need to complete all remaining degree requirements by the date approved; otherwise, you will be dismissed from the program. If the extension of time is not approved, you will be dismissed from the program immediately.

Academic Honors
Academic honors are awarded to undergraduates who meet the following criteria:

• Bachelor's degree: 3.7 cumulative GPA and completion of at least 60 credits in residence
• Associate's degree: 3.7 cumulative GPA and completion of at least 34 credits in residence 

Academic honors are noted "with honors" on the diploma and transcript. 

Departmental Honors
Departmental honors may be awarded to degree candidates from Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, Parsons School of Design, and Parsons Paris who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their programs as evidenced by:

• Prominent leadership
• Outstanding contribution to departmental projects
• Notable professional achievement and/or noteworthy participation in or remarkable contribution to the senior/thesis exhibition

Departmental honors are awarded to a maximum of 10 percent of the graduating class per program. All degree candidates are eligible, as are mid-year conferrals. The departments select candidates for departmental honors by seeking nominations from faculty and staff. A departmental committee reviews nominations and makes final determinations should nominations exceed 10 percent of the graduating class. “Departmental Honors” is noted on the diploma and transcript.
