The percentage of international students at Â鶹´«Ã½É«Ç鯬 is one of the highest among U.S. universities. The Center for English Language Studies launched the Language Support Initiative, a university-wide professional development model to equip
faculty and staff to effectively teach an increasingly international, diverse student body, differentiating Â鶹´«Ã½É«Ç鯬 as a leader of global education.
The Language Support Initiative
Through our courses and workshops, faculty and staff learn to apply the best practices and pedagogy of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Universal Design for Learning to their disciplines and courses. These training opportunities
are provided by the Center for English Language Support and Services in partnership with Â鶹´«Ã½É«ÇéƬ’s .
The initiative was awarded the Â鶹´«Ã½É«Ç鯬 Provost’s Innovations in Education Fund grant in and 2019–2020.
To date, more than 355 faculty and staff from across the university have taken advantage of our Language Support offerings. They unanimously report that these offerings have improved their teaching across the board with all populations.
The digital Language Support Trained badge is provided to Â鶹´«Ã½É«Ç鯬 faculty and staff to certify that they have completed the 33-hour TESOL Methods
Intensive for Â鶹´«Ã½É«Ç鯬 Faculty or more substantial training, such as the 132-hour noncredit Certificate in TESOL.
