Advisors have extensive knowledge of campus resources and will show you how to navigate university systems and procedures. They also act as a liaison between you and Student Success staff and acquaint you with procedures for communicating with faculty and other academic leadership when policy questions on subjects such as academic integrity, grade appeals, and academic standing arise.

You are assigned to an advisor based on your program and year of study and, in some cases, your last name. You can find your advisor's name, office location, photo, bio, and contact information through .

It is easy to schedule an appointment with your academic advisor; you can book appointments and sign up for group sessions in MyNewSchool. Just follow these steps to schedule an advising appointment:

1. Go to  and log in.
2. Click on the Academics tab.
3. Find Starfish and click the “Access Starfish” link.
4. A new window or tab will open. Click on the “My Success Network” button on the left.
5. You’ll see your academic advisor in the My Success Network list. Click on the “Schedule appointment” link under your advisor’s name to go to their calendar.
6. Look for available times, as indicated by a green plus sign and the words “Sign Up.”
7. When you find a time that works for you, click on “Sign Up.”
8. Be sure to indicate whether your appointment will be in person, over the phone, or by Skype by choosing the correct location.

Whether you are trying to decide on a major or have already selected one, you can use DegreeWorks to explore your options and to monitor your degree progress.
