    The BA or BS in Media Studies is awarded upon the completion of 120 credits, 30 of which must be in Media Studies. The major consists of two core courses, 18 credits in your chosen concentration, and two courses toward your capstone.

    Concentration requirements are organized between Foundation courses and Advanced courses that build on the histories, theories, and skills developed in the foundation courses.Ìý

    Pre-approved concentrations leading to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree:

    • Screenwriting
    • Cinema Studies
    • Media and Social Change

    Pre-approved concentrations leading to the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree:

    • Media Entrepreneurship
    • Film Production

    All pre-approved concentrations follow an approved curriculum. Students should consult with their advisor and seek approval for all major electives to ensure progress through the degree. You also have the option to design your own media studies concentration (see details below).

    Self-Designed (BA/BS) Concentration

    Students can design their own media studies concentration. Proposals for a self-designed concentration must be submitted for approval to the Media Studies advisor and must 1) include a one- to two-page essay explaining the purpose and goals of the titled self-designed concentration; 2) articulate three to four learning outcomes; and 3) identify provisionally (as new courses may be offered) three Foundation courses and three Advanced courses from across the college or other colleges that represent an increasing level of engagement with the area of concentration.
