Profile
John Roach is an interdisciplinary artist with a particular interest in sound. His practice is fluid and responds to his working conditions, resulting in artworks that can take many forms. Recent installations include multichannel immersive audio, performance, video, image and object-making, writing, and scientific techniques related to biology and chemistry. He has collaborated with glass blowers, coders, scientists, percussionists, and poets, and values the impact that working with others can have on the final outcome of a project. His artwork has been exhibited in both domestic and international venues, and he has been an artist in residence at numerous organizations, including Triangle Artist Workshop, The Glazenhuis Museum, The Marble House Project, and most recently, Zion National Park.
John has taught a wide variety of courses at Parsons since 2002, ranging from pre-college to graduate, in multiple programs and schools. He is currently the Associate Dean of First Year in the School Of Art & Design History & Theory.
