Jilly Traganou is a Professor of Architecture and Urbanism at Parsons School of Design, and affiliated faculty with the Doctorate in Public and Urban Policy at the Schools of Public Engagement, and the听Department of Politics at the 麻豆传媒色情片 for Social Research. She is co-editor-in-chief of听Design and Culture.
Jilly's work examines urban and material questions related to social movements, identity, affect, and participation, and her current research is focusing on the role of spatial agency, material engagement, and maintenance in prefigurative politics (such as Occupy, Christiania Freetown, Standing Rock).听She is also working on the 鈥淒ecolonizing Urbanism鈥 project in collaboration with Prof. Evren Uzer which looks into decolonizing curricular and pedagogical practices in the studies of urbanism.听 Jilly Traganou has been a fellow of the Fulbright, Japan Foundation, the European Union Science and Technology Post-doctorate Program, Bard Graduate Center, and Princeton Program in Hellenic Studies, and a recipient of two Graham Foundation grants.听
She is the author of听Designing the Olympics: Representation, Participation, Contestation听(Routledge, 2016), and听The Tokaido Road: Traveling and Representation in Edo and Meiji Japan听(RoutledgeCurzon, 2004), and co-editor with Sarah Lichtman of Design and Displacement (Routledge 2023), editor of听Design and Political Dissent: Spaces, Visuals, Materialities听(Routledge 2020) and co-editor with Miodrag Mitrasinovic of听Travel, Space, Architecture听(Ashgate, 2009); and. She has guest-edited special issues, "Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games," co-edited with Izumi Kuroishi,听Review of Japanese Culture and Society听(2021-22); "Material Displacements" co-edited听with Sarah Lichtman听Journal of Design History听(2021), "Design in the Pandemic: Dispatches from the Early Months,鈥 co-edited听with Barbara Adams and Betti Marengo, Design and Culture (2021), 鈥淒esign and Society in Modern Japan,鈥 co-edited with Sarah Teasley and Ignacio Adriasola Munoz,听Review of Japanese Culture and Society听(2016); "Visual Communication Design in the Balkans,鈥 co-edited with Artemis Yagou,听The Design Journal听(2015); and 鈥淒esign Histories of the Olympic Games,鈥澨Journal of Design History听(2012).
